Spanish wines are well known in all over the world. The Iberian Wines are ones of the best in Europe. Rioja wines are probably the ones you first remind!!! But Spain is large and offer numerous denomination less known to the traveler. Castilla & León Comunity is one of the biggest in Spain, full of history that goes far before the romans who brought the vineyards to the more modern ways of making the wine. We propose with this tour a comprehensive approach to the wine culture of Castilla Y León. We invite the traveler to experience the land and culture of the different wine regions visited. Wines from several of the denominations like: Arlanza, Vinos del Bierzo, Ribeira del Duero, Toro, are to be tasted and cellars to be visited. To reach these areas we will travel and hike, this is a wonderful way of experience the villages, towns, natural environment, and non-the less the vineyards. Wines of Castilla y León hiking tour is just a more active way of discovering part of Spain, while hiking and tasting the Iberian culture. Find yourself in different sceneries and find a perfect mixt of sensations and rest from the day today of big cities....Wines from several of the denominations like: Arlanza, Vi-nos del Bierzo, Ribeira del Duero, Toro, are to be tasted and cellars to be visited. To reach these areas we will travel and hike, this is a won-derful way of experience the villages, Towns, natural envi-ronment, and non-the less the vineyards.

ITINERARY

Afternoon meeting in Madrid with our guide. Transfer to Ribera del Duero Wine region, 2h north of Madrid.

Our hike takes us to a little village, Sotillo de la Ribera. The place is the best to give you an idea of this area of Spain. Away from the well known area of Spain. Away from the crowds and from the beach… This is real central Spain!! We are in the Ribera del Duero Wine region. The hike is dedicated to find the grapes and the living around it. Here the weather can be harsh, and from freezing temperature in winter to the very hot under summer sun!! Find out why they buried the cellars and how they manage to produce such a good wine.

This day is dedicated to travel to Bierzo Wine Region from Ribeira del Duero Wine region. In the way will stop at Toro Town, enjoy is historical center and visit one of the underground Wineries intown. Wine tasting and lunch will be arranged for us to discover the wines of Toro. In the afternoon we resume our transfer to the Bierzo Region.

Today’s hike is from Villafranca del Bierzo about 30min from Pon- ferrada. Before entering the rolling hills covered with vineyards why not hang a bit in town, thru the streets and monuments… As we reach the limits of the town we take the French Way in reverse entering the wine country. As we walk along the vines why not stop at a Winery and taste some of the bottles produced all around. Once back at Ponferrada some free time to explore on your own, and a visit to the Templar’s Castle.

At the opposite of Villafranca, we head up to Molinaseca, small typical village of Bierzo, just on the verge of the Wine area… We will enter Meruelo’s river valley to find out about some medie- val bridges… We will walk up to Riego de Ambros Village to get back to Molinaseca following pilgrims as we will follow the French way back to our starting point. While returning to Ponferrada a stop to visit another wine producer and enjoy a well deserved wine…

Arlanza Wine region is east of the Bierzo and a few kilometers away. To make it more easy and pleasant will stop for a visit to León’s Cathedral. A masterpiece of the Gothic era. Before leaving Leon a little stroll and time to lunch in the historical center. In the afternoon we resumed our transfer to Arlanza Region. Inc Lunch, Dinner, visit to the Cathedral DAY 6 | VISIT LEÒN CATHEDRAL Arlanza Wine region is east of the Bierzo and a few kilometers away. After a small transfer our hike starts towards the Mataviejas Canyon. A small trail that follow the river Mataviejas have being the link between two villages in this area. For centuries path like this have being the sole way of exchange in this region. Another one is the lana Way to Santiago de Compostela, one much less known pil- grims route, why not use some stretch of it towards Santo Domin- gos de Silos and its Monastery. If time permits we still can enjoy a path along the Yelca Gorge…

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Discover some wine regions of Spain that are not very known. Arlanza is probably the least expetecd area, but the area is of real beauti and have magnificen old villages. Bierzo Region is exist thanks to a spetial micro climate. Embede in a basin surrounded by mountains allow the growth of the vineyards. Toro and he undergrownd Bodegas. but for sure the main area for wine lover will be the Ribeira del Duero and their world renown wines. 
  • You can expect discover a gastronomy that changes thru the tour. Wines and ways of making it peculiar to the regions. Some grape veriaty that are local and not known elsewhere. 
  • All of this while hiking, many days in between the vineyards…
