The Camino de Santiago from Sarria, the most popular section of the Camino, is ideal for those pilgrims who want to capture the essence of the Camino de Santiago. Walk the final section of the world famous Camino De Santiago walking trail, through the hills of Galicia to finish at the Pilgrim’s goal of Santiago De Compostela. Currently the Camino de Santiago is a meeting place for people from all over the world, races and beliefs. It is an enriching experience in all senses: physical, emotional, social, cultural... The town of Sarria, in the province of Lugo, is for many the starting point of the French Way or Camino Francés, as this town marks the 100 kilometers needed to attain the Compostela certificate. Once you arrive , we recommend that you visit the town center where you can discover churches, chapels, monasteries and pilgrim hospitals that will connect you from your first day with the essence of the Camino de Santiago. Sarria is a busy, modern town with plenty of shops, hotels, restaurants and bars. Rua Maior has a picturesque atmosphere where we suggest you enjoy a good coffee during the afternoon. If you follow the Camino route to the top end of town you will see the ancient convent Monasterio de Magdalena, the ruins of the castle and the medieval bridge Ponte Aspera.

Today is the first day and the first stage for lots of pilgrims that have chosen Sarria as their starting point. To exit you have to cross the bridge of A Áspera and walk parallel to the railway tracks for 1 kilometre towards Barbadelo, up the most difficult hill of the day.
It will be a lovely walk separate from the road. You will go through Sarria, Paradela and Portomarín and you will cross many rivers through its medieval bridges. It is an easy stage with lots of establishments.

The majority of today’s walk to O Pedrouzo is through wonderful pine and eucalyptus scented woodland. You will start walking downhill and then pass through beautiful forests, quiet villages and cross several streams throughout the day.
The path is clearly signposted and abounds in restaurants and services for pilgrims. The small villages of Calle and Salceda mark the midpoint for the day’s journey.

Almost there! The last phase of the Camino Francés begins in Pedrouzo and heads towards Santo Antón, on a hill ascent to A Lavacolla.
The route passes through eucalypt forests with most of the route on quiet roads and pathways before the final kilometres and a climb to Mount Gozo before descending into the suburbs of Santiago. The path runs alongside the airport and you will see many crosses of twigs and branches used by pilgrims to decorate the fence.

After breakfast you are free to check out of your hotel any time before 11am. If you would like to explore Santiago further you are able to leave your bags with reception.

There are several historic hotels and inns along the route that offer pilgrims and travelers a unique and memorable experience. These establishments often have a rich history and character, making them more than just a place to stay.
Terrain: The terrain is relatively gentle, and you'll pass through scenic countryside, charming villages, and forests. There are some hills and moderate elevation changes, but it's not overly strenuous.
Food and Cuisine: You'll have the opportunity to enjoy the delicious Galician cuisine, including fresh seafood, pulpo a la gallega (octopus), and other regional dishes. Don't forget to try the local Albariño wine.
Waymarking: The route is well-marked with yellow arrows and scallop shell symbols, making it easy to navigate.
Our Camino from Sarria was very well organised, the places I stayed in were lovely and all worked well - I would recommend them!
