OVERVIEW

This Journey takes you around Picos de Europa National Park in northern Spain. Situated in the Cantabric Mountain range and near the sea, it presents an rugged relief created by the actions of water that create deep valleys.

Here nature, history and the people mingle. The cider, cheese and fabadas make this place one of the most varied to taste while walking.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 - Oviedo - Cangas de Onís.

Reception at Oviedo and transfer to Cangas de Onis, entrance to the Picos de Europa. The famous medieval bridge and the Sella River are symbols of this town, royal and historical land, land of grazing and cattle, land of good cheese and excellent gastronomy. Dinner and logging

DAY 2 - From Amieva to Soto de Sajambre 15.5 km (9.6 mi)

This stage runs through the valley of the Dobra river, following an old connection between the valleys of Asturias and León. Transfer to Amieva, and we start this ancient route through mountain villages, located in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Picos de Europa. Dinner and logging

DAY 3 - Cueto and Frade Mountain passes 14.6km (9.1mi)

A day of steep slopes, but of great natural beauty … We begin by ascending the wooded slope towards the Collados, natural mountain passes towards the neighboring valley. On the descent, we will cross pastures belonging to the Valdéon valley. Dinner and logging

DAY 4 - From Valdéon to Fuente Dé 13.2km (8.2mi)

Today we have a lighter stage of hiking. Leaving through the green pastures we reach the Collado de Valdeón, we enter Cantabria following the Deva river valley and we will finish our tour with a spectacular landscape at the bottom of the valley in Fuente Dé. Dinner and logging

DAY 5 - From Fuente Dé to Sotres 15,8km (9.8mi)

We start this day with the ascent on the cable car. We walk along the course of the Duje River, which divides the central and eastern mountain ranges in the direction of the small mountain village. Here the rural life is perceived very intensely, seeing the cattle on the pastures and plains. As we arrive at Sotres we are entering back into Asturias. Dinner and logging

DAY 6 - Bulnes Mountain Village 12km (7.5min)

Today our stage will be following the old paths that join the villages of Sotres, Bulnes and Poncebos, on incredible mountain scenarios. We will discover wonderful landscapes with views of the Naranjo de Bulnes, passing through the port of Pandebando. Dinner and logging

DAY 7 - Cares trail, and the lakes of Enol and Ercina 19km (11.8mi)

The day follows the old route of the Christian reconquest, towards the lakes of Enol and Ercina. We start in the Cares Canyon with its incredible slopes. The plains and the flocks await us at the top, and through grasslands we will reach the lakes at Covadonga and back to Cangas de Onís. Dinner and logging

DAY 8 - Oviedo. End of tour

After breakfast, farewell and transfer to Oviedo (airport) End of tour.

This was a fantastic trip with lots of free time to explore the cities on your own. The local transport used was extremely good and the included activities, particularly the tapas and the Camino walk, were excellent.
