Following the coastline from Porto to Figueira da Foz, and later the meanders of the Mondego River towards Coimbra, the Portugal Silver Coast Cycling offers a superb route to discover the natural and cultural treasures of Central Portugal. Starting at Porto, a vibrant city full of history and cultural sites to unveil, the route follows the narrows streets of the old town towards the seaside. It then runs along the golden sandy beaches south of Porto all the way down to the São Jacinto Dune Natural Reserve at the mouth of the Ria de Aveiro. From the narrows streets of the old town the route runs along beautiful beach resorts and small towns giving an insight over the Portuguese culture and live. On the way you’ll cross the São Jacinto Dune Natural Reserve and the Ria de Aveiro, the estuary of the Vouga river which characterizes part of the region arriving at Aveiro City, our little Venice with its channels and moliceiros boats. To the south the route crosses an immense pine forest, making solitude crossing the dunes system one big part of the day, stopping at small beaches to have a drink and watch the sea and contemplate. Finishing in Coimbra, renowned for its century old University and UNESCO old medina area, and academic life

Terrain: The terrain is relatively gentle, and you'll pass through scenic countryside, charming villages, and forests. Most will be following cycling lanes, or small roads and forest traks. the terrain is more hilly in Galicia while reaching the Portuguese camino in Redondela and onward.
Food and Cuisine: You'll have the opportunity to enjoy the delicious Spanish cuisine, including fresh seafood, pulpo a la gallega (octopus), and other regional dishes. Don't forget to try the local Albariño wine.
Waymarking: The route is well-marked with yellow arrows and scallop shell symbols, making it easy to navigate. When avoiding non cycling areas the booklet and gps track given have all the information.
This was a fantastic trip with lots of free time to explore the cities on your own. The local transport used was extremely good and the included activities, particularly the tapas and the Camino walk, were excellent.
A great trip, with a wonderful group of fellow travellers. Incredibly well lead by Helder. Enabled an opportunity to get to know a little about Spain and to appreciate the diverse nature and history of the country.
