The French Way is the option most frequently chosen by pilgrims year after year. It is the most sociable and well-known route of the Camino de Santiago and the inspiration of many books, films and documentaries.
This section of the last 100 km from Sarria to Santiago is ideal for those pilgrims who want to capture the essence of the Camino de Santiago. On your tour you will be able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of rural Galicia and its gastronomy, as well as meet many other pilgrims from all over the world en route to Santiago.
Our meeting point is in León with our guide and, after a brief presentation, we will transfer to the Carrizo de la Ribera Monastery in our private vehicle.
Beginning of the Spiritual Retreat

Today we will dedicate the day to spiritual retreat.
In the afternoon, transfer to the town of Sarria.
Accommodation and dinner: Hotel Superior in Lugp
Today we begin our Camino de Santiago. We leave the town of Sarria, passing by the Romanesque Church of Santiago, the remains of the Castle and the Convent of La Merced, crossing the medieval Áspera Bridge to soon enter the heart of nature. Today’s stage alternates sections of dirt road with sections of rural roads that cross beautiful forests and beautiful villages. We recommend stopping briefly at the Church of Santiago de Barbadelo and the Church of Santa Maria de Ferreiros, after which we will find the marker for kilometre 100 to Santiago, a must-see photo for pilgrims.
Arrival in Portomarín. Time to rest after this beautiful stage that has brought us to this curious town, built in its new location in the ‘60s after the construction of the Belesar reservoir and the flooding of old Portomarín. We cannot miss visiting its fortress Church of San Nicolás, from the 12th century, or failing to try its famous eels.
Accommodation and dinner: Hotel in Lugo
Breakfast. This stage begins by crossing a pine forest and will take you through a multitude of villages. You will first access Castromaior and then the Ligonde Mountains to gradually descend through the villages of Eirexe and Ligonde to the town of Palas de Rei.
Accommodation and dinner : Hotel in Palas de Rei
We leave the accommodation early, as in previous stages, to take advantage of the freshness of the morning. Today we cross Palas de Rei where, in its Church of San Tirso, we will find the oldest seal of the French Way in Galicia. Later we will arrive at San Xulián do Camiño, one of the most beautiful villages on our entire Camino and, through lush forests, we will get closer and closer to Melide, our destination today. Before Melide we find the medieval Bridge of Furelos and the Church of Furelos, with its curious Christ who offers his hand to pilgrims.
Our day of the Camino ends in Melide, the octopus town par excellence in Galicia, even though it is far from the sea.

Today we have the highlight stage of our Camino. After three days our body gets used to walking and we will enjoy another day full of very special places and nature. We will pass through many special points, such as Boente and its Church of Santiago, the Ribadiso Bridge before Arzúa – capital of Arzua-Ulloa cheese, which we can taste in one of its bars and restaurants. A day with a lot of shade and very beautiful paths.
Accommodation and dinner hotel in Salceda
Another day of the Camino, in which we will stay at the gates of Santiago, to have a comfortable and relaxed entry into the Holy City tomorrow. Our stage today will take us again through the green Galician landscape, through towns and villages such as O Pedrouzo, San Paio and Lavacolla: an undulating landscape, where we will have moderate ups and downs but that we will undoubtedly enjoy. By now we are sure to have met many other pilgrims who will make these last kilometres an unforgettable experience.
Accommodation and dinner hotel in Lavacolla
Today our big day arrives. Shortly after leaving Villamayor we will arrive at Monte do Gozo, named after the joy that pilgrims from all over Europe felt for centuries when they saw the towers of the Cathedral for the first time. We only have 5 kilometres left. We enter the city of Santiago and follow the flow of pilgrims that will take us to its old city and the fantastic Plaza del Obradoiro.
Pilgrim’s Mass.
We have the rest of the day free to enjoy this beautiful city, a world heritage site, with its gastronomy, monuments and people from all over the world. In its ancient streets we will hear a multitude of foreign languages, but they are no longer so strange, because they come from the members of our new family, the Pilgrim Family. Welcome to Compostela!!!
through the beautiful streets of the old town of Compostela, you will reach the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
