The result is an enourmous amount of inlets and little peninsulas with small villages and beaches …
A perfect place to relax and taking time pedaling enjoying the places This day end in Ortigueira at the end of a Ria (ria is similar to a Fjord). Here the sea is more gentle and allow people to settle.

The standard day follows more closely the pilgrim route …
In the way the Sanctuary of Santo André de Teixido a minuscule sanctuary with a stunning view of the coastline. And if your pedaling is fast or stronger, take some time at Valdoviño beach. The sand extend is an invite to rest something and at least step into the sea.
Historically, Ferrol was and still is a naval base, and along the shores as you approach the port, remanences of old coastal defense are visible. Once in Ferrol you feel arriving at a bustling place, very different from the past days. The Camino do Mar reach is end… Tomorow the English Way Start…

You are now at roughly 120kms from the Cathedral at Santiago.
After finishing the Camino do Mar you are now starting the English Camino to Santiago a variant that begin in Ferrol and for centuries was the entrance for pilgrim coming from the English island and Ireland.
This is the last day of truly maritime feeling, you still hike in the vicinity of the sea or tidal areas of some of the rivers. You will sense that in places like Pontedeume, Miño and Ponte do Porco prior to reach Betanzos.
Betanzos is known to be the capital of Galician Gothic. Take time to visit this town with so many reminds of the medieval times ….

Leaving behind long journeys with maritime legacy the path now enters a rural Galicia no longer related to the seas. Now you ll follow more forested tracks and lanes along small paved roads. Paved roads more in the first half of the day and more rural dirt tracks in the second half of the days which is also more apart of civilization…
Sigüero is actually the only real town of the day, most of the villages you ll encounter will be during the first part of the day, and the second half will be more of loneliness Enjoy the day cycling thru Rural Galicia…

This past September Helder Cerejo from The Way Tours put together an outstanding bike trip for 10 of us. The route from Sintra Portugal to Santiago Spain that was planned and pre- ridden by Helder himself, following the Portugal Camino, was challenging and breathtakingly scenic. Helder did an exceptional job in supporting the ride while allowing us to explore and ride at our own pace. He was personable and flexible making everyone feel comfortable. Helder was very particular with following our requests, be it booking quaint and unique accommodations, to renting quality gravel bicycles. The entire trip was a once in a life time experience. This was our second experience with The Way Tours and as previously, they did not disappoint. kristen S google22 Noviembre 2024Trustindex verifica que la fuente original de la reseña sea Google. We had a fantastic almost 2 week bicycle trip through Portugal with The Way Tours in August 2024. Our tour director Helder was wonderful. He was kind, funny, organized, at every stop, was where he said he would be, had food and water for us along the way. When it rained, he picked me up in the van. He had a well organized itinerary on paper and digital. He did two city walking tours for us as well. The bikes they had for us were very good. We did a road/gravel trip and the bikes handled everything well. Thank you so much for a wonderful trip. I have too many great pictures to upload. It was an amazing experience. I love hiking the Camino — even more not having to worry about anything because everything was so well planned. Our guide Helder took really good care of every single detail, allowing me to just focus on hiking and enjoying the beautiful landscape.
