After meeting you in Porto or the airport, travel to Galicia in northern Spain. This area is known for the ancient past related to the beginning of Christi-anity. Old monasteries and Romanic churches hang above the deep canyon of the river Sil. This is also a Wine area where the terraces are a remind of centuries of work.

Morning transfer to River Miño area nearby. From the vininity of the beautiful village of Belesar will start this day hike. From every view of this valley we will be staggered with the amount of vineyards.
Terraces and terraces allow the grow of this crop in this deep valley.
We will tackle some of the slopes and will gain in elevation to observe and feel some of the hard work people have put into the scenic panorama.
We also hike what is part of the winter Saint Jame’s Pilgrimage route that goes all the way to Santiago de Compostela.

Today we change area and in the way to Castille & León we will explore the Courel Mountains.
Near Seoane do Courel village is the last primitive forest of Galicia and amazing Chestnut Groth. We will hike in a very astonishing area following old ways that link Schist villages scaterde on the valleys slopes. Nowadays this area is experiencing the return of the bear. After the hike we continue travel to Laciana Unesco World biosphere.

Today we enter Asturias and Somiedo Natural Park, north of the Cantabrian mountains range. This side of the mountains is facing the ocean…
The trail is linking several pasture and brañas. Brañas are summer settlements for the shepherd stay. Some of them are still in limited use. Modern ways of getting up there are far more easy in today’s world.
The mountain still is a way of living in his side of the mountain range too.
After this long hike a well deserved rest wait at our logging.

30min drive to the head of the trail in Laciana valley.
Once in Caboalle de Arriba village we can start our hike. We are in a beautiful valley and in a rural area. People here still live from the land and struggle with the closure of several mining explorations during the last decade. Up the hill and into the Devesa (forest) to reach higher points and amazing view over the valley. In the way remains of summer villages no longer in use.

At the end of our hike a small transfer to our accommodations.

As we have to get back to Porto, to avoid a long day of transfer we will make a stop in what is the stunning accomplishment of men two millennials ago while in search for gold.
In the way will stop at Unesco World heritage site of Las Medulas.
The surrounding scenery is the result of years of gold mining. We will walk around what was the mining system of roman times….
They manage to sculpt the land and even divert a river to at the end present the world with this unusual site.
After this visit/Hike we will end our day in Ponferrada.

A day dedicated to return to Porto and enjoy a completely different ambiance. From empy spaces to a lot more crowded and alive city. After settling in our accomodations we depart for a walking tour of the Old Unesco town of Porto.
