Guided Tours

At The Way Tours, we offer you a different way to experience the Camino de Santiago: accompanied by expert guides, taking care of every detail so that you can simply enjoy yourself. We travel through stages steeped in history, landscapes that change with every step, and villages where you can still breathe in the essence of the Camino.
You can do it on foot, advancing calmly and feeling each section, or by bicycle, enjoying adapted and safe routes. In both cases, we guide you, assist you and give you everything you need to make each day comfortable, enriching and special.

Self-guided tours

If you prefer to experience the Camino at your own pace, without schedules or groups, our self-guided format is perfect for you. We prepare each stage in detail: maps, recommendations, special points along the route and all the information you need to proceed in complete safety.
You can do it on foot, enjoying every step and every landscape, or by bicycle, following signposted routes that are adapted for a comfortable and exciting experience.
You decide how and when to move forward. We take care of getting everything ready for you: accommodation, luggage transfers and assistance if you need it.

Information about the Camino de Santiago

Everything you need to know, step by step

There are many reasons why thousands of people decide to walk the Camino every year. As a Camino de Santiago travel agency, we have been fortunate enough to accompany pilgrims from all over the world, and we have heard first-hand what motivated them to take the first step. Here we share the most common reasons. Perhaps you will recognise yourself in them too.

Visit the tomb of the Apostle

The origin of the Camino has very deep spiritual roots: reaching Santiago de Compostela to visit the tomb of the Apostle. Today, although not all pilgrims do so out of faith, many still feel a special emotion when they enter the Cathedral and embrace the figure of the saint. For some, it is a promise. For others, an inner search.

Experience a great adventure

Break out of your routine, disconnect from everyday life and let yourself be surprised. The Camino offers landscapes that look like something out of a film: dense forests, endless meadows, charming villages, mountain trails and even hidden beaches. Each stage is an adventure and a new discovery.

Meeting other pilgrims

The Camino brings together people of different ages, countries, languages and cultures. Even if you start out alone, it won’t be long before you find company, unforgettable conversations and lifelong friendships. The pilgrim spirit is palpable in the atmosphere: here, everyone helps and shares with each other.

Surpass yourself

It doesn’t matter how old you are, what physical condition you’re in, or what fears you carry with you. The important thing is to get started. We’ve seen 70-year-olds arrive in Santiago with tears of pride in their eyes, and others overcome personal challenges they thought were impossible. The Camino is not a competition: it’s a personal journey where every step counts.

Enjoy its cultural richness

Every village you pass through has a story to tell. Romanesque churches, monasteries, cathedrals, walls and castles. The Camino is an open-air museum full of tradition, architecture and gastronomy. And the best thing is that you discover it all on foot.

If this is your first time, it’s normal to feel a little lost. The Camino de Santiago is not a single route, but a network of paths that run throughout Spain (and beyond!). At our Camino de Santiago travel agency, we help you choose the one that best suits you.

French Way

The best known and most travelled route. It connects Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (France) with Santiago de Compostela. Great atmosphere, lots of accommodation options and a very complete experience. Ideal if you want to experience the most classic Camino.

Portuguese Way

You can start from Lisbon, Porto or Tui. It has less elevation gain than the French Way, lots of greenery, cities steeped in history and options both inland and along the coast.

Northern Way

It runs alongside the Cantabrian Sea. Ideal if you like cliffs, sea breezes and picture-postcard landscapes. However, it is more physically demanding.

Primitive Way

From Oviedo to Santiago. It is the oldest route and one of the hardest. It rewards you with tranquillity, wild nature and few crowds.

Other routes

There are also the Vía de la Plata (from Seville), the English Way (from Ferrol or A Coruña), the Sanabrés Way, and the Finisterre route, which continues beyond Santiago. Each one has its own charm.

One of the most common questions is when is the best time to do the Camino. The answer is: it depends on what you are looking for.

Summer

This is when there are the most pilgrims. It coincides with the holidays, the weather is stable and the days are long. However, it is hot, and some sections can be very crowded. It is advisable to book accommodation.

Winter

The Camino in winter is another world. Silence, solitude, snowy landscapes… but also colder weather, less daylight and many accommodations closed. Ideal for the more experienced or those seeking introspection.

Spring and autumn

Probably the best times to walk. Mild temperatures, colourful landscapes and fewer people on the trail. If you can choose, April-May or September-October are safe bets.

There are many ways to do the Camino, and all are valid. The important thing is to experience it your own way.

On walk

This is the traditional and most popular option. Most pilgrims do it on foot. You only need to walk the last 100 km and have your credential stamped twice a day to obtain the Compostela.

By bicycle

An increasingly popular way. It allows you to cover more distance in fewer days. If you decide to do it this way, you will need to cover at least 200 km to obtain the Compostela. It is also advisable to have good equipment and a clear plan..

On horseback

A less common but very special way. It requires experience with the animal, adapted accommodation and more logistical preparation. But if you go for it, it will be an unforgettable Camino.

Other ways

Some pilgrims do it with their dogs (there are special credentials for them), and others have started to travel sections by kayak along the Galician coast. The Camino is evolving, and everyone finds their own way to travel it.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Camino de Santiago

Why walk the Camino de Santiago with us?

At The Way Tours, we live and breathe the Camino. We don’t just organise trips: we design tailor-made experiences so that each stage is unique and meaningful. We take care of everything — accommodation, luggage transfers, itineraries and assistance — so that you can focus on enjoying yourself. Plus, our local guides know every corner, story, and tradition, allowing you to connect with the essence of the Camino and its people. Whether you choose a guided or self-guided route, with us you’ll have the peace of mind, flexibility, and personalised service that make your trip unforgettable.

In general, the Camino de Santiago is a very safe route, even if you need to walk at dawn or dusk. Even so, we always recommend planning your stages to take advantage of daylight hours and enjoy the surroundings with greater visibility. At The Way Tours, we adapt itineraries so that you don’t have to walk at night unless you choose to, and we give you safety tips, rest stops and direct contact details in case of unforeseen circumstances.

The key is to travel light. Your backpack should include:

  • Comfortable, broken-in footwear suitable for hiking.

  • Breathable, quick-drying clothing.

  • Raincoat or cape.

  • Cap or hat and sunscreen.

  • Reusable water bottle.

  • A small first aid kit with the basics (band-aids, anti-chafing cream, painkillers).

  • Personal documentation and pilgrim’s credential.

If you travel with us, we take care of transporting your luggage, so you only need to carry what is essential for the stage.

Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) are the most recommended seasons: mild temperatures, fewer crowds and spectacular scenery. Summer is also popular, but it can be hotter and busier. At The Way Tours, we help you choose the date that best suits your level, your preferences and the type of experience you are looking for.

You don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy the Camino, but it is advisable to have a certain level of physical fitness. Ideally, you should go on several long walks beforehand wearing the shoes you will use on the Camino, to get your body used to them. At The Way Tours, we adapt the route to your pace and physical condition, with shorter or longer stages depending on your needs, so that you can enjoy the experience without rushing and with the necessary energy.

Footwear is your best ally on the Camino. We recommend lightweight, breathable hiking boots or trainers that are already broken in to avoid chafing and blisters. It is important that they provide good support and have non-slip soles to adapt to different terrains. Many pilgrims also bring sandals to wear at the end of each stage. At The Way Tours, we advise you on the most suitable choice according to the season and the type of route you choose.
